How Many Hats Can You Wear?

I’ve been doing a lot of things lately business wise. Blogging, speaking, facebooking, tweeting, event planning, marketing, consulting and who knows what else. But the more I think about these things, it becomes very clear as to what I should do. I should be doing what I do best, and it’s crystal clear what that is – BUYING AND SELLING DIAMONDS AND JEWELRY! That’s it. Period.

Whether it’s here at Samuelson’s Diamonds, working on our startup, or our Facebook Fan page, the goal of my business, and our entire umbrella of companies, is finding ways to trade in diamonds. The other stuff is cool and I enjoy it, but I’m not gonna let it take me off my game. The more I can concentrate on what makes me real money and what I enjoy, the better off I’ll be.

But on the other hand, maybe this other stuff helps my diamond business. The other question is how much of this do we do ourselves and how much to we let outside professionals or a new employee do?

What do you think? Do you find yourself spending time on distractions that are not your business?

    nice post, might guess you and a couple other thousand people are feeling the same thing. the rub that alot of these *new* marketing techniques are free…facebook, twitter etc…but what the reality none of these work without a strategy and implementation plan, not to mention the manpower to make it all happen. the only part of the game that has changed is the medium, there is still high value in using a professional partner to make it all happen in a cohesive, well executed and focues manner. it free to jump in the pool but it take more human capital that other traditional methods (tv, radio, print) to make it successful. that is the learning curve businesses need to realize.

    now go forth & sell more diamonds! 🙂

  • Thanks so much for you comment Tracy. Another hard part is that all of this stuff is relatively new, so we’re learning as we go. I would say that our social media efforts are working, after all, I met you right? 🙂 The struggle is that I don’t think anyone can do it like I do, especially for my business, but maybe I need to get off that trip…
